” You off sailing in Turkey again?” “Are you mad?”…..
Our friends & work colleagues would ask with a quizzical look. Obviously the background issue of the unrest in some areas in Turkey was bothering them, not to mention the Syrian boat people.
In my humble opinion, there is no valid reason not to come to Turkey, no reason not to sail in Turkey with the most personal charter company I know, Sail in Turkey.
We know the Marmaris / Gocek / Rhodes sailing area very well & are aware that it is not near any political hot spots or Syrian boat routes.
We have been going on sailing holidays in Turkey for the past 11 years, we have got to know Stef and Mark, of Sail in Turkey, well. A fantastic couple who make ones holiday a memorable & great experience every year.
Keeping that in mind we booked the Oceanis 411, Ipomea, as this is the yacht we always book. We now feel very comfortable & familiar with this beautiful boat & each year, unlike us, she looks better & better thanks to Mark’s meticulous care & eye for detail. The Oceanis 411 is very comfortable & easy to sail. We have had as many as six people on holiday on this particular boat in the past, this year however it was only the two of us &, as usual, was easy to handle, easy to moor, predictable & very reliable.
The sailing area is beautiful, we spent a week in the tame waters of the Gocek area & were sad to leave 22 Fathom bay which is our favourite stop over, where we usually moor & stay for two or three nights. A few lazy days swimming with the bay’s resident turtles off the stern in the shade of the trees that grow down to the waters edge certainly makes one forget the stress of life in the UK.
Once the wind was in our favour, we then headed away from the Gocek area & to Serce and Loryma and Ciflike, skirting past Rhodes on our way.
I write this while sitting in a coffee shop waiting for our transfer to Dalaman airport for our flight home to Wales.
Would I come again, a big resounding, yes. Turkey has not disappointed and as always has been very good to us.
So Stef & Mark, keep up your good work & we look forward to seeing you, Turkey & our favourite yacht again next year.
A big shout out to Stef and Mark. Till we meet again.
