This course provides advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, who want to undertake coastal passages by day and night.
This course consists of skippered passages in a variety of situations; trainees will skipper more challenging passages & learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day & night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations. It is an intensive course and thus your theory knowledge must be to the standard of Coastal skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory shore-based course as there will not be time during the week to teach theory during this practical week.
Coastal Skippers should be able to undertake more difficult passages by day & night & handle the yacht in more difficult conditions.
Pre-course Experience: 15days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours.
Assumed knowledge: Boat handling to the standard of Day Skipper & navigation to shore-based Coastal Skipper
Minimum Duration – 5 days
Minimum Age: 17 Years
By the end of the course you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to apply for an independent Yachtmaster exam and you should be able to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night.
